Introducing Islam: Methods and Theories

On Sunday 4th April 2009 the Muhammadi Trust had the pleasure of facilitating the start of a four week course organised by the Ahlulbayt Islamic Mission entitled `Introducing Islam: Methods and Theories`. Speakers at the course included Ayatollah Ali Al-Hakim, Mr. Amir De Martino and Dr. Rebecca Masterton.

Ayatollah Ali H. Al-Hakim (Cand.mag)


- Completed Islamic studies to the level of ijtihad in the Shia Advanced Seminary in Qum.

- Obtained his Cand.mag in Islamic Studies from the University of Oslo.

- Teaches at the Hawza Ilmiyah and the Islamic College, London.

- In Charge of Religious Enquiry Section at the Islamic Centre of England.

Br. Amir De Martino (MA)

- Obtained a double subject BA degree in Studies of Religion & Persian Language from SOAS, London.

- Obtained MA in Islamic Studies from Islamic College for Advanced Studies.

- Studied Traditional Islamic Sciences at the Imam Husayn Institute.

- Teaches Islamic History at the Islamic College, London.

- Senior member of the Islamic Association Ahl-Al-Bait of Italy.

- Co-founder of the Islamic periodical in Italian language “Il Puro Islam”.

- Educational Officer at the Islamic Centre of England.

Dr. Rebecca Masterton (PhD)


- MA Comparative East Asian and African Literature.

- PhD in francophone and Islamic mystical literature of West Africa from SOAS, London.

- Taught Islamic Mysticism at Birkbeck College.

- Teaches Islamic Spirituality at the Islamic College, London.
